Complaint: Want a refund? Please read below! About 6 months ago I lost a file and went to Carbonite to get from back-up. After a day or so I had their backup information and the file that I needed was not backed up. In talking with their support people, they acknowledged they had not backed the file up. Over the next few months, I tried to see if they were backing up files – they uninstalled and reinstalled their system (which cased some of my other programs confusion). In calling about not seeing, in their system that files wer not being backed up they told me to wait a few minutes to allow their system to load. I have waited as long at 20 minutes and still do not see backup results. I asked on a couple of occasions for them to refund me my purchase price ( was in about the 6th month of a two year agreement) and they refused. Seems, that after 30 days from purchase they do not refund – even though they are incapable of doing what they committed to do! Finally, I contacted the BBB and filed a complaint – magically they acknowledged that they would refund the balance of the contract time! Sent them back a response and demanded the full refund, due to the fact that their software did not do the job – to get rid of me they sent a credit for the balance of the contract time. I guess what really frustrates me the most is that it took a complaint with the BBB to get their attention! I was also going to file charges in the local Small Claims Court to get their attention, but since I go a small amount back, I will not file – should . . . So, if you are frustrated with Carbonite, file a complaint with the BBB (only takes a few minutes) and/or go to your local Small Claims Court and file. It is not about the money ($113.00) it is about professional and trust – my experience shows they lack both!
