I am posting this review from inside my car in this hospitals parking lot. My sister had a major surgery today. We are both from Alabama, and I am the only family she has here. However, I live 3 hrs away.
After driving 3 hours, I arrive to the surgery waiting room, and was told that kids under 13 are not allowed in the surgery waiting room, or anywhere else on the 2nd floor of the Main Hospital. They are also not allowed to visit patients once they are moved to their rooms. Really? I could understand this if I came with 2+ children. I could also see if she was coughing, sneezing, had a runny nose, if she was a baby, or was otherwise disruptive.
I am a healthcare provider, and have worked in hospitals the last 16 years of my life. This is the first hospital where kids can’t be on an entire floor, or go to the patient’s room once they are moved. They are using the excuse that kids are getting the flu faster this year.
Really? So, I’m pretty sure pregnant women, the elderly, and the immunocompromised adult shouldn’t be allowed on the entire second floor as well. I see why your hospital has terrible ratings.
I drove 3 hours to get here. I am sitting in your parking lot to avoid sitting in the first floor waiting room, outside the ER. I have to drive back home because I have clinic for the rest of the week and will not be able to come back down here. This is a horrible policy that isn’t based on any research.
I am so disgusted.
