Dentist made a mess of my mouth, broke teeth, refused to correct the problems, and then abandoned me in mid-treatment.
I hired Dr Heidi Wettles, DDS of Woodstock, NY, to correct my teeth using the plastic Invisalign braces. This was to take 14 months – 18 months at most. The treatment did not restore my teeth as shown in the video, and additional sets of braces were needed. However, with Set Two braces things went wrong and she kept ignoring the growing number of problems. A Set Three braces were even worse and I was in constant massive pain, and again she refused to correct the problems. The Invisalign company said she needed to contact them immediately for new procedures. She repeatedly refused to contact them. After 30+ months, and after breaking teeth, she canceled my appointments and abandoned me.
Dr Wettles has created more dental problems and more complex problems than when I had begun. I now have problems with my mouth being too small, my tongue is squashed, the teeth bent inwards, the teeth filed down, problems with my jaw and tongue, my speech is slurred, and other serious problems. My mouth is a disaster.
I prepaid for a Comprehensive Treatment with follow-ups, retainers, etc. Dr Wettles refuses to refund any part of my money. She also refuses to provide the original photos needed for treatment with another dentist or orthodontist (which I am told I now need.) She refuses to return my original dental records or provide the documents of what she did.
I am a senior. Dr Wettles knew I had to save for 4 years to do this correction. She also knew I needed it done within the 18 months as I might have to move. She did terrible work, she failed to complete the job, and she abandoned me in mid-treatment when I was in terrible pain.
Now trying to find someone to correct and finish the job is a second nightmare, as many dentists and orthodontists – including the NYUDentalSchool – will not take transfers.
Additionally, she replaced a molar crown earlier, and it never felt right. After 11 months it had major problems and required a root-canal treatment. It turns out that she had fractured the tooth. She never told me of the what the endodontist’s report said, though I asked. After repeated visits to the endodontist, I was given a copy of the report, and now the molar needs to be extracted and replaced with an implant and crown. Dr Wettles refuses to pay for the problem she created.
I tried taking these two issues – molars and braces – to small claim court, but after 9 months they dismissed it saying these are the SAME treatment and they exceed the $5,000 limit. I was never given a hearing or trial (rescheduled 3 times, then cancelled) to adjust the amount. Now I have to start all over.
Dr W knew I might have to be moving due to bank failing to give me a mortgage modification. She said she could do the job in the time allowed. She failed to meet the deadline. She then failed and refused to complete the job. She created more problem, and more complex problems, than when I began. Her work is terrible, and her actions in this are unconscionable.
