Complaint: I searched for a computer programmer who could provide security work for my computer applications. Found this Michael Davies on a website and he appeared well presented. Hired him at a rate of US$3,000 for which he insisted on being paid via Bitcoin. When the funds were sent, there was a drop that day in the value of Bitcoin, in which Mr. Davies said the transfer was only worth US$2200 when he received it. While the value indeed drop off that day, I was advised by several people who use Bitcoin to allow the value to return to where it was prior to the transfer. A week later it indeed returned. However, Mr. Davies acknowledged he had already cashed out the funds received and wanted another US$800 sent via Bitcoin. He then stated he had done the work requested but now asked for another US$2,000 in payment. I declined and asked for my money back. He in turn declined to return my money. Mr. Davies then disappaered into thin air. I took the liberty of contacting the Columbus Ohio police and they advised me they had previously received multiple complains about this individual for similar incidents. They also advised of trying to locate someone by that name in their jurisdiction but could not find him. A word of caution – do not hire anyone claiming to be Michael Davies. This individual may actually be located in France and is using a USA burner phone to drum up business. A total scam artist if there ever was one.
