I have been a patient twice and I can not , in all honesty, recommend it . Some of the staff are competent but budget items seem to rule the day in food, housekeeping, services etc. AS for getting you home fast , my family member was fallen ill and unconscious in ICU. I told Powerback Rehabilitation I had to leave immediately to be with my child.
They threatened me with having to pay the full bill (i.e., they would not bill Medicare and my Medigap ) as I would be discharged AMA if I left and would have no insurance coverage at all!. . I had to contact Genesis corporate and to get out with a legitimate discharge so that insurance would pay. . It added stress beyond imagination at the worst day and most horrible time of my life.
So much for “getting you home fast”. I physically was fine to leave as I walked out the door but their focus was on keeping a patient. The food is inadequate and also inedible and when I told the PA I needed more protein to heal a torn meniscus , the head of food service told me to have people bring me protein from home.
When I phoned Powerback to cover these issues, out of great concern for others, the director seems just mildly interested and did not promise any changes that I know are essential for their more memory impaired and very ill patients. Fortunately, I can still speak for myself. Unless you can stay with and speak for your family member and you can fight a strong system I can not hold the thought that you should put anyone in the facility.
Oh yes, an occupational therapist also leaned a shaky walker against a wall near me which fell on my foot as I sat in a wheelchair. Required pain meds , Xray etc.
The physical therapist told me I walked like “Frankenstein: and as an older woman no one wants to hear that. When I confronted him he said “NO I said don’t walk like Frankensgtein ” which is the same thing but he could not get that.
I don’t know what feedback I am going to hear from Powrback about these reviews but I owe it to older people considering a therapy center to share these views. It is very painful for me to have to write these truths but I will swear to every fact under oath . I was often pushed to do exercise when I was exhausted and this is counterproductive since my DX is heart failure. Most of the therapists did not even know that fact. In my opinion you might do better to look around at other places before sending anyone there. Their PR rep for Powerback and the case managers in the hospital promises heaven on earth but I don’t think you should listen.
